Which came first, the virtual chicken or the virtual egg? We might never know, but I found a real board-game adapted from an iPhone app – a first for me (and perhaps the world). I was in the mall with the boys the other day searching for a new game to entertain us when I came across what might be the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Angry Birds the board game!
As board games go, it’s not great, but for pure novelty factor alone I had to buy it. Perhaps I’m contributing to the insanity a little bit, but I just couldn’t resist. And it is insane… I’m not sure where the Angry Birds empire begins or ends. There is an app sequel which features angry pigs, you’ve seen the real (meaning non-virtual) board game, I’ve heard stories of a movie adaptation in the works, it just goes on and on and on. The company that developed Angry Birds has plans to make the franchise bigger than Tetris. And, it’s possible they’re already most of the way there. When Nintendo’s game-boy first came out twenty something years ago, I played Tetris so much I started to see those dropping blocks in my sleep. Even though I’ve pretty much given up on ever getting past level 39 in Angry Birds, now I dream about angry birds… although that could be the kookaburras who are targeting me. (Want to learn more about my ongoing battle with Australia’s criminally insane laughing birds click here, or here, or here.)
So now that we have the Angry Birds board game we’ve started a tournament. The only difference, in our version pigs CAN fly.
UPDATE: The world just keeps getting crazier. See this picture below from a Chinese theme park. They've made a themepark ride out of it!!!
